When I think of Paris (as I do often, being our honeymoon destination du jour), I think of the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, the Left Bank, baguettes and good cheese…and maybe Audrey Hepburn in Sabrina, I admit…but I do not think of fries. I know they serve frites in France and other parts of Europe, but I just don’t see deep-fried potatoes on the same plain as the Seine. Maybe Paris’s french fries will blow my mind and I’ll change my tune, but for now, I don’t believe it.
That said, I think today’s craft improves the chic factor of French fries drastically: the wallpaper fry box. I know, it’s a little out there, but trust me, you’ll want to make fries just so you can serve them in these little containers.
Here’s what you need:
- Plain-backed wallpaper samples (NO glue on the back)
- Scissors
- A glue stick
- Waxed paper
Here’s how you do it:
1. Cut this pattern out of cardstock, to use as a template (thank you to www.scrapbook.com user luv2scrap1968):

2. Trace the pattern on to the back of the wallpaper in pencil (you’ll want to erase the pencil marks later). Cut it out.
3. Fold the paper along the seams to create two sets of tabs and the square bottom of the box. Picture a McDonald’s fry box, and this will help you know where to fold.
4. Put glue on one set of tabs and affix to the other set to create a pocket. Hold for 30 seconds, or until glue has dried.
5. Cut squares of waxed paper and insert into the box when dry. Make your fave fry recipe (I love Chatelaine’s oven fries) and toss ‘em in your little boxes to serve.
*Don’t skip the waxed paper step. The grease from the fries will stain the box. Also, if you want to make bigger boxes, just print the pattern and enlarge it on a photocopier.
That’s it! As they say in France (or at least I hope it’s not just something they say in French movies), Bon appetit!
