Don’t get me wrong, I love living and shopping in Canada, with the exception of one gaping hole in our retail portfolio. Target. For anyone who lives close enough to the border to justify four hours of driving to shop, you’ll all know what I mean. Target just rocks. End of statement. I remember a spine-tingling rumour a few months back that they were perhaps buying The Bay, but that hasĀ been disproven, now that Lord & Taylor has stepped in. Which leaves Canada sadly lacking a Target. My american friends don’t understand mine (and all my friends) obsession with the big box retailer, but where else (aside from Ikea maybe) do you get exclusive, world class, top designer merchandise at such a price. Without even getting into the world of fashion, they have secured Michael Graves, Thomas O’Brian, Tord Boornjt (last christmas) as product designers, and now, a new collection launching this month by John Derian. For those who don’t know the name, check out his website, www.johnderian.com. He is a major trend-setter, bringing playful, scientific precision to decorative accessories. He’s a big deal with design-types, and very expensive. Until now. One more reason to head for Buffalo this month!
