Speaking of working families, Stephen Harper’s Conservative government is set to introduce legislation tomorrow that will allow self-employed Canadians to access maternity and parental benefits under the federal employment insurance program.
Amendments to the Employment Insurance Act would permit about 2.7-million self-employed people to receive benefits while they take time off to care for their child. This is great news for many parents who have, in many cases, opted to work for themselves in order to have a more flexible schedule to raise their kids.
What do you think of the proposed legislation? Would it help you and your family?
