A few months ago, my personal trainer asked me if my boyfriend and I ever worked out together. We don’t, and when I told her that, she said, Well, wouldn’t it be great to wake up and spend a Sunday morning together at the gym?
I guess that’s a nice idea in theory, but in reality, my ideal Sunday morning involves lattes and lounging around, not lunges. However, it turns out she might be on to something: USA Today reports that a recent University of Connecticut study of overweight individuals found that those who dieted and exercised with their partners lost more weight than those who did it on their own.
Regardless of your workout goals – weight loss or otherwise – I’m sure that exercising with your partner is a huge motivator to get to the gym, but I don’t know anyone – anyone! – who works out with their significant other. Do you?

HI;
As a long time runner and partner to someone who thought I was crazy to run marathons, yes, we have recently started running together. It gets him up and going in the morning and gives me another reason not to hit the snooze button. Yes, someday I wonder if it was such a hot idea inviting him into “my time” but most of the time, we talk, when we are able too and motivate each other to go faster, and farther. So yes, I exercise with my partner and 99% of the time I enjoy it more.

Hi Catherin, thanks for your comment – and that’s awesome about running with your partner. My boyfriend also can’t understand why I run, maybe I need to ask him to join me… mh

I definitely don’t work out with my boyfriend. I prefer to go to the women’s gym so that alone won’t work. Plus, I feel intimidated when he’s there. I know he doesn’t care, but I want him to see the results, not the effort!
